The Muslim World League welcomes the signing of the agreement on a short-term ceasefire and humanitarian arrangements by representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah. Announced in a joint statement by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, the two sides agreed to facilitate the delivery and distribution of humanitarian assistance, restore essential services, and withdraw forces from hospitals and essential public facilities.
His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the MWL, and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, praised this important progress in the talks between the two parties. The agreement is different than previous ceasefires, as it will be supported by U.S.-Saudi and international-supported ceasefire monitoring mechanism.
His Excellency called on all parties to fully commit to their obligations under the agreement, which will allow safe passage to provide relief to the people in need. He expressed his hope that this will pave the way for a complete and permanent ceasefire, and finding a final, agreed solution to this painful crisis that afflicts Sudan and its dear people.
Dr. Al-Issa praised the great efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to help resolve the crises. The Kingdom stands by the people of Sudan during this dangerous situation, facilitating talks between the conflicting parties and working to overcome all obstacles to reach a comprehensive and peaceful solution that preserves the safety, unity and territorial integrity of Sudan and fulfills the aspirations of its people.
