The Muslim World League Welcomes UN Security Council Resolution Condemning Aggression Against Gulf States and Jordan
Makkah:
The Muslim World League (MWL) has expressed its strong support for the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2817, which passed with a decisive majority of 13 votes. The resolution—submitted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan—condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the acts of aggression against the sovereign territories of the Gulf States and Jordan. It demands an immediate and unconditional cessation of these hostilities, as well as an end to all provocations, threats, and the employment of regional proxies.
In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, lauded this resolute stance by the Security Council. He emphasized that the resolution’s passage, bolstered by the sponsorship of a historic majority of 135 UN member states, sends an unequivocal message rejecting the Iranian regime’s continued transgressions. Dr. Al-Issa noted that such aggression, carried out under unfounded justifications, directly threatens the security of peaceful nations and represents a dangerous attempt to destabilize the region, posing a grave threat to international peace and security.
His Excellency further highlighted the resolution’s condemnation of strikes targeting residential areas and civilian populations. While expressing full solidarity with the affected nations, he urged the Security Council to fulfill its legal mandate by ensuring the immediate implementation of this resolution and compelling full compliance with international law and relevant global obligations.
