The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Delivers the Opening Address at a UNHCR Event During the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York

His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, delivered the opening address at an event hosted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He spoke as the guest of honor on behalf of the MWL, in the presence of the High Commissioner and a number of international participants.
The event was part of UNHCR’s contribution to the High-level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
His Excellency highlighted the importance of charitable work in Islam, explaining its distinctive features and legislative advantages, and stressing the importance of well-governed institutional charitable work.
He outlined the MWL’s efforts to support and strengthen charitable work, and its attention to the governance and coordination of such work through direct cooperation with government authorities in each country. He commended its cooperation in this area with the UNHCR in particular, and with relevant United Nations organizations in general.
