Sheikh Al-Issa Elected as the Chairman of the League of Islamic Universities Cairo: In its eleventh session, the General Conference of the League of Islamic Universities elected His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa as the Chairman of the League of Islamic Universities. His Excellency Sheikh Al-Issa received the congratulations of Their Excellencies the Muftis and scholars of the Islamic world, the ministers of religious affairs, and the presidents of Islamic universities on this occasion, asking Allah to grant him success. The conference had discussed amending some articles of its statute and the work regulations of the League of Islamic Universities, in addition to approving the minutes of the previous session hosted by Alexandria University last year. The League of Islamic Universities, founded in 1969, brings together under its umbrella major universities from various parts of the world, and is active in supporting scholarly research on Islamic studies, as well as coordinating between Islamic universities, their curricula, and their educational research policies to achieve rapprochement and integration between them, in addition to strengthening the relations between universities and community issues, to contribute to confronting the problems of Islamic societies as well as confronting extremist ideology. The LIU also coordinates with other universities in everything related to common goals. It is considering concluding cooperation and exchange agreements with major Western universities and universities in the Far East, especially in the fields of civilizational and cultural studies, Inter-dialogue as well as Orientalist studies.
