For a Quicker Response Time and a Better Disaster Control
Dr. Alissa Inaugurates the Emergency Center at the International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development

Jeddah:
The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Alissa inaugurated the Emergency Center at the International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development at its headquarters in Jeddah. The Center will publish highly specialized and up to date reports and findings of agencies such as the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and similar agencies operating in the field of disaster control.

During the inaugural ceremony, His Excellency Dr. Alissa listened to a detailed presentation by the Secretary-General of the International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development Dr. Abdul-Aziz Ahmed Sarhan explaining the role and the tasks of the Center in coping with the disasters and providing humanitarian relief to all the affected countries.

Dr. Abdul-Aziz Sarhan said that the Center aims to make IORWD a benchmark for humanitarian work; the first choice for donors. He added that monitoring events requiring emergency response will help the Organization to be better equipped to implement developmental programs, as well as, improve the response time, this will help in controlling the crises and disasters and minimize their impact on the affected communities in the regions prone to such emergencies.

He continued that the Center is subscribed to a network of observatories that give early warnings of any possible emergencies; this will link the different offices around the world with the centers providing information about disasters. Based on this information, a voluntary emergency team will be dispatched to monitor and assess the needs, and support in the preparation of an emergency response plan.

On his part, His Excellency Dr. Alissa expressed his appreciation for the work carried out by the IORWD. He pointed out, that these international efforts are executed with the utmost professionalism and in accordance with pre-planned goals and objectives. He further emphasized that the IORWD has taken substantial strides in serving the afflicted and needy around the world, making sure that the aid is provided to the beneficiaries with absolute dignity; regardless of their ethnicity, religious affiliation, and in accordance with the guidance of Islam which dictates that there is reward in serving all living beings. Allah says in the Quran: (And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,) it is clear that POWs are hostile but still Allah made giving charity to them equal to that of the needy and orphans, this is a clear testimony to Allah’s mercy that has encompassed everything.
